| Musical Chairs with a New twist |
| Perhaps you have played the game Musical Chairs
in your music class or at a party. Well, here are some ways to give
that classic game a new twist.
|
- Set up chairs in a circle with the backs of the chairs toward
the inside of the circle. The seats should be on the outside as you walk
around the outside of the circle of chairs. There should be one less
chair than the number of people playing the game.
- Select a song to play and choose a leader to run the player. As the
leader plays the recording, all players should walk around the circle
with NO ONE touching any part of the chairs. At a surprise moment, the
leader will stop the song and everyone should find a seat. There will be
one person left standing and that person is eliminated from this round.
Now here are some TWISTS choose a different one for each round and no one
will be sure what will happen!
|
|
TWIST #1: The person left standing is not OUT of the game,
but now becomes the leader. The leader enters the circle and plays the next round.
You do not remove a chair.
|
|
TWIST #2: The person left standing chooses a substitute to be
eliminated from this round. That substitute leaves the circle to sit on the
floor until the end of this round. Remove one chair.
|
|
TWIST #3: This one needs direction BEFORE the music begins.
This time when the music stops, each person should remain standing and FREEZE in place.
If anyone wasn't listening and sits down, they are eliminated from this round.
Remove same number of chairs as people eliminated. If everyone was listening and
no one was eliminated, continue on with another round and another twist.
|
|
TWIST #4: The person left standing chooses any month of the
year. Whoever has a birthday in that month is eliminated from this round.
Remove same number of chairs as people eliminated.
|
|
TWIST #5: This one needs direction BEFORE the music begins.
This time when the music stops, each person should "Reach up high, touch the sky,
go down low, touch your toes, turn around, and then sit down." If anyone wasn't
listening and just sits down, they are eliminated from this round. Remove same
number of chairs as people eliminated. If everyone was listening and no one was
eliminated continue on with another round and another twist.
|
|
TWIST #6: This twist requires some preparation before the
game begins. Under each seat in the circle of chairs, place a number from one
through the number of chairs in the circle. The person left standing should
choose a number between one and the number of chairs in the circle. Everyone
looks under the seats. The person sitting in the chair that is chosen is eliminated,
NOT the person left standing. Remove one chair.
|
|
TWIST #7: Similar to # 6 and requires some preparation before
the game begins. Under each seat in the circle of chairs, place a variety of notes
(i.e. whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes). There will be more than
one of each depending on the number of players. The person left standing should choose
a note value. Everyone looks under the seats and the people sitting in the chairs chosen
are eliminated from that round, NOT the person left standing. Remove same number of
chairs as people eliminated.
